South Africa visa for Bangladeshis

Bangladeshi passport holders need a South African visitor's visa for stays of 90 days or less. The new ETA launched on 12 August 2026, but we found no official confirmation that Bangladesh is on the eligible list.

Quick answer: Visa fee: Not confirmed; ask our office (DHA says the fee is set annually and varies by country). Processing: Not confirmed; ask our office. Confirm before you pay.

ETA status for Bangladesh

Official source checked
  • Official South African government statements name China, India, Indonesia and Mexico as the pilot countries. The 12 August 2026 launch speech says more countries will be added and embassies informed, without naming Bangladesh.
  • We found no official list that includes Bangladesh as of 15 October 2026. Treat Bangladeshis as visa-required and check eta.dha.gov.za before each application.

Where and how to apply

Official source checked
  • The Home Affairs visitor's visa page says to apply at the nearest South African embassy, mission or consulate abroad. It does not name Dhaka or VFS for visitor visas.
  • One third-party site says South Africa has no visa centre in Bangladesh and that applications go through the High Commission in New Delhi. Confirm the correct office with us before you pay or send documents.

Fees

Confirm with our office
  • Home Affairs states that a fee applies but gives no amount. One third-party site quotes R425 plus a service charge, which we could not confirm on an official page. Ask our office for the current fee.

Document checklist

Documents change by visa type and profile. Our counsellor confirms your exact list.

Documents for every applicant (Home Affairs)

Official source checked
  • Passport valid for at least 30 days after your intended departure, with at least one unused page.
  • Completed Form BI-84, the prescribed fee, and two colour passport photos.
  • Statement or documents showing the purpose and duration of the visit, plus a return or onward air ticket.
  • Proof of financial means such as bank statements, a sponsor undertaking or medical cover.
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate if required.

Minors

Official source checked
  • Unabridged birth certificate and proof of guardianship or custody, or guardian consent for an unaccompanied minor.

Things to watch

  • South Africa says visas are not issued at ports of entry, and airlines may refuse boarding without a visa.
  • ETA rules are changing quickly. Re-check eta.dha.gov.za and the High Commission before quoting. Entry decisions rest with the immigration officer at the border.

Frequently asked questions

Can Bangladeshis use the South Africa ETA?

Not confirmed. Officials name only China, India, Indonesia and Mexico so far, and no official list we found includes Bangladesh. Treat it as a visa-required country.

How long can I stay on a visitor's visa?

A visitor's visa is for temporary tourism or business visits of 90 days or less. The officer at the port of entry decides the actual stay.

Is a return ticket needed?

Yes. Home Affairs lists a return or onward ticket for air travellers, plus proof of funds.
