Where and how to apply

Official source checked
  • Fill in the AVATS online form, then print and sign the summary sheets. Choose Short Stay (C) and the right reason for travel, for example Visit Family/Friend.
  • For Bangladesh, the New Delhi embassy page says documents are posted to the Embassy (NDEM). Alternatively a third-party agent in Kolkata can lodge them at VFS Kolkata. No biometrics are listed for Bangladesh.
  • Send documents within 30 days of creating the AVATS application. Do not buy tickets before a decision.

Fees

Official source checked
  • The Embassy page for Bangladesh gives INR 5,300 for single entry and INR 9,000 for multiple entry, paid by INR demand draft made out to the Embassy of Ireland. Drafts are listed as available from Sonali, BRAC and Pubali Bank.
  • The general Irish immigration fee page lists EUR 60 single, EUR 100 multiple and EUR 25 transit. The fee is not refunded if the visa is refused or withdrawn, and extra charges may apply.

Processing time

Official source checked
  • The only official figure we saw is about 8 weeks after the office receives your documents, from the visit family/friend page. Missing or unverified documents cause delays. The Embassy page gives no fixed time for Bangladesh.

Document checklist

Documents change by visa type and profile. Our counsellor confirms your exact list.

  • Financial evidence such as bank statements, and proof of ties that show you will return home (job, study, family, property or business).
  • Details of any previous visa refusals with the original letters.
  • Originals are required. Documents on USB or cloud links are not accepted. Non-English documents need a certified English or Irish translation.

Visiting family or friends adds

Official source checked
  • Invitation letter from the host with a copy of their ID or passport, and an accommodation plan or proof of the host's address.

Other visit types

Confirm with our office
  • Tourist, business, medical and transit applications follow the same AVATS route but have different supporting documents. The pages we read did not list them for Bangladesh, so ask our office for the current checklist.

Things to watch

  • Bangladeshi applicants use the New Delhi embassy route and pay in INR by demand draft. Check the Embassy page again before paying because fees and routes change.
  • Passports stay with the embassy until a decision. Visa decisions rest with Irish authorities and no approval is guaranteed.
